A new startup hub is to open in the city centre aimed at supporting and growing the region’s start-ups.

Incubate Leicester, has refurbished a three-storey building in Granby Street to create a new incubator space for fledgling entrepreneurs, start-ups and existing technology businesses.

Founders of the 5,000 sq ft site today said the building will aim to provide fast-growing early-stage businesses the opportunity to receive support, mentoring and office space.

Dr Constantina Katsari, director, said Incubate Leicester is the first of its kind in Leicester that uses Silicon Valley technology to support high-growth startups in the Midlands.

She said: “Incubate Leicester is a real first for the city and a really exciting journey for the region’s brightest brains.

“We hope that Incubate Leicester will fuel the incredible Midlands startup community by bringing together the hottest startups.

“Our aim is create businesses which will help put the city on the map as a global destination for high-growth companies.”

Incubate Leicester will accommodate 20 co-working spaces for startups and will offer desk-space, free wi-fi, free events and free business workshops from industry experts. It has already forged strong support from the tech community having held a number of taster workshops and meet-ups.

It will also help attract private investment for those looking to grow and take their ideas into a commercial environment.

Harun Master, founder of Incubate Leicester, said: “We have created something unique in the region that will give businesses access to the best mentors and an environment where they can develop their ideas.

“I’m certain that we will find unearth some really exciting firms from Leicester and we have partners in all areas to really grow including a strong network of angel investors and mentors who want to share their experiences and expertise.”

Innovate Leicester will formally open next week (May 21) with an evening reception.

It will offer a business support package that includes advice, access to funding including grants to eligible startups. It also has plan to deliver a six-month virtual acceleration program for high-growth web-based startups.

The reception will take place at Incubate Leicester, 119 Granby Street, Leicester LE16FD on Wednesday 21st May at 6pm on the third floor (War Room).
